Rough Draft

I plan on doing my Virtual Art Exhibition on the artist named Vincent Van Gogh. The reason that I choose to do my Virtual Art Exhibition on him was because he is my favorite artist and he is the artist that created one of my favorite paintings called The Starry Night. The purpose of my exhibition is that I want to show who Vincent Van Gogh was as an artist. Also to show what was behind the artwork that he has created over the years. In the exhibition I also want to show that Van Gogh was more than just the painter of The Starry Night. I want to show that he created many other paintings as well including Starry Night over the Rhone, The Night Cafe, Wheatfield with Crows, Almond Branches in Bloom, Sunflowers, The Cafe Terrance on the Place du Forum, Fishing Boats on the Beach at Saintes-Maries, The Red Vineyard at Aries and The Mulberry Tree. I also want to show that all the things that he went through in his life also went into the things that he created as an artist. Van Gogh was born on March 30, 1853 in Groot-Zundert, Holland. He began his artistic career in the year 1881. (VanGoghGallery) In the beginning of he art career he taught himself how to paint and he taught himself most of the things that he knows about painting. He was not professionally trained to create art (Artable). He was greatly influenced by the artist Paul Gauguin. The two met during 1887 of November while they were in Paris. (VanGoghGallery) Van Gogh’s main focus of his artwork was on pairings. The mediums that he would use in his paintings was oil. The subjects of his paintings included things like the city, figures, scenery and the landscape around him. He began painting in the time of the art movement called Post-Impressionism. (Artable) Vincent van Gogh died in the year 1890 on July, 29. During his lifetime most of his painting were only sold to his brother Theo. After his death Van Gogh’s paintings became popular and was bought by many people. His paintings were bought not only by museums, but by private owners as well. Also after he dies in Germany he became one of the most famous artists. He also influenced many other artists from the artwork that he did during his time. Many of his paintings like Starry Night were mass produced on all different types of items including, posters, mugs, shirts, phone cases and many other things. Till this day Vincent Van Gogh is one of the most known artists that existed. He was not only known for his artwork that he created, but also the mental illness that he had that led him to cutting off his ear. His artwork influenced many other art movements including Fauvism and Expressionism. Today he is also known as the “Mad Artist”. Also until this day he is one of the most remember and one of the most popular artists of the post-impressionists painters. (Artable)

This painting was one of the last few that were created before Van Gogh’s death. This painting brings and eerie, dark and haunting feeling to it. Black crows are a symbol of bad things to come and death. So this painting is portraying that Van Gogh was coming to the ending of his artistic career and being alive. The blacks crows look like they are coming into the field to take what it is in the field away from it.

Street Art

What is street art? Street art is art that is usually located outside and made public for everyone to see. This art is created by artists and sometimes even the average person. Some young kids in the area are the artists behind the street art that you see. There are many different types of street art including graffiti, side walk art, murals and public murals.
Graffiti is art that is done quickly on different public suffices including walls of buildings, street signs and trains. Different kinds of graffiti include piece, tag, throw up, and stencil graffiti. Stencil graffiti has become one of the most popular forms of graffiti known today. Graffiti in some places is just kids doing it without any permission to do so. In places like Santiago graffiti is used a promotion to sale Faber-Castell pencils. They make the graffiti look like it is just a posted that was created by the Faber-Castell pencils. The new marketing of graffiti is helping to change the way that many people look at graffiti. This alternative marketing strategy makes people actually look at the visual aspect of graffiti to understand what is being sold. Graffiti is all around us. (Trentinit)
Urban graffiti started by people protesting the power that they did not have. This graffiti showed what good hand written letters looked like. It voiced what many of the people without power were feeling. People began tagging the city the city in monikers. Tag is when a person there name, street name or a logo on their art so people would known who created it. Tags can either be big or small. Small tags and big tags are created with different tools. A small tag are created by permeant markers, while big tags are created by spray cans. (The editor’s letter – Looking at graffiti technique)
Portage is the transfer of a boat or the cargo of the boat across two waters. Maintenance is being able to perceive something. Artist Rory MacDonald uses both of these techniques in all of his works that he creates. MacDonald also is known for creating conceptual ceramics and contextual art. No artwork is better than other art and to say that something is better is called artism. Ceramics is not only created with clay, but it also takes a lot of time to go into the work. (MacDonald)
Street art is all around the world. In every place street art looks different. The street art that you see is different from street art. A good example of street art would be at the Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida. Street art can be seen in the on some of the buildings walls. The street are that is seen would be a street that looks like it is going up the wall. It is a good example of street are because it is art that is seen in public by many. The street drawn on the wall looks like it is real from afar, but when you get closer to it you can see that it is not a real street at all.

                                                                         Modern Art and Architecture
What is modern art and architecture? Modern art was an artistic movement that took place during 1800-1945. Architecture is the art drawing that goes into creating the builds. It is used as the beginning step in designing a buildings. During this art moment manta of the “isms” were creating including Cubism and Futurism. The new art movements changed how art looked. The movements created different looks for art the could be categorized in the art movement. Each movement has different looks to them so you could tell them apart from each other.
The Avant-Garde is the most recent art that is created. These young artists were creating new kinds of art that was yet to be created by others. The new artists pushed forward what art could be. Fauvism is an artistic movement where strong colors are highlighted in the picture. Expressionism is an artistic style where an artist’s personal feelings can be shown. One artist that would fall into the Fauvism moment was Henri Matisse. Some Expression artists would include Edvard Munch, Gauguin and Van Gogh. (Getlein 483-485)
Cubism is an artistic movement where abstract forms are placed at the same time. Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) and George Basque where the creators of the Cubism artistic moment. The emotion in Picasso’s paintings would come from everything around him. In his paintings he would put in all the things that he liked. Picasso thinks that art that is taught is only what they want you to see and that you are not truly learning about it for yourself. He did not care what other people had to say about the artwork that he did. He felt that art was a process with different perceptions (Conversation with Picasso) Cubism was created in the early 20th century. It gave a new look to how art looked. Another thing cubism did was that it gave new configurations to the paintings and made them one of a kind and not like others. (Getlein 486-490)
Futurism is an artistic movement that is focused on the movement of energy. This new movement of art began in Italy. It was created in the year 1909. It began during the time of the Revolutionary War. Futurism art memorialized the modern technology that was occurring during this time. Futurists believed that the movement of things was the focus of the the 20th century. (Getlein 490-491)
A good example that was influenced by the Modern Art and Architecture movement would be the Sydney Opera House. The Sydney Opera House is located in located in Sydney, Australia. It is a good example of Modern Art and Architecture because of the design. It is also contemporary culture because the architecture is current today in the world. Contemporary culture is current time and all the things that happen and are created now. The Opera House is still used till this day and is visited by many.

Museum Review Assignment

Pima Air & Space Museum Review

What is an exhibit? An exhibit is where art or things of interest are shown to draw attention to them. The exhibit that I visited was the Pima Air and Space Museum in Tucson, Arizona. Pima Air and Space Museum was open in the year 1976 with 75 aircrafts and now holds 300. The museum shows over 100 years of aviation history. (“Welcome to Pima Air & Space Museum”) The museum was built to show the history of the planes and to give people a look at the history of aviation. People are able to get a first hand look at the history of aviation and are able to touch the airplanes. The museum is both outside and inside. You can walk the museum by yourself or get a tour from the guide and tour bus.

The Pima Air & Space Museum has many exhibits including Hangar 1 North, Hangar 1 South, Spirit of Freedom Hangar, Hangar 3, Hangar 4, Hangar 5, 390th Memorial Museum, WWII Barracks, Dorothy Finley Space Gallery, Outside Aircraft, Other Outside Exhibits, and Popular Aircraft. (‘Exhibits”) The main exhibit that I focused on was the Outside Aircrafts. I focused on the outside aircrafts because that is where the Blue Angels plane was located. The Outside Aircrafts exhibitions main focus was on the big planes.  The outside planes were both Military and Civilian planes. The outside exhibit did not have one focus on a designer. The planes were designed by many different designer and not one specific designer.

Text panels are panels that give information of the artwork or item that you are viewing. The content of the exhibition is  made more clear in the text panels. Text panels tell when something was built or made, who designed it, when it was was used and not used, to tell where things were found, and why it was created. The text panels are provided with the item to clarify what the items are that are being focused on in the exhibit. They make things easier to understand what they are and what their function was. Text panels also give background information of the items that are being displayed in the exhibition.

In the outside exhibition the one plane that I focused most on most was the  United States Navy Blue Angels plane. The F/A -18A Hornet was made in the mid-1970s by McDonnel Douglas. The plane was made by Douglas to take place of the F-4 Phantom planes and the A-7 Corsair planes. Many of the early Hornets were used by both the Navy and the Marines. The Navy and the Marines used the very first Hornets as attack aircrafts. Most of the early planes are no longer being used because they were put into retirement, but some of the planes are still being used today by the Navy’s Blue Angels aerial team. (“Mcdonnell Douglas F/A-18A Hornet”) The Hornet’s plane colors are primary colors. The planes colors are both blue and yellow. The colors of the plane are warm.

Pima Space and Air Museum should be visited by many people. Whether you are into the history of aviation or just wanting to see the planes this is a place to visit.  All of the different exhibitions showed many different things. In each exhibition there was new things to learn about and see. The museum was very informational and interesting. The different exhibitions showed all different kinds of planes and they gave background information of the text panels.
